Project Spotlight: Kitchen, Bath, and Bedroom Remodel in Monona
Earlier this year we completed a multi-space remodel in a Monona home. The project included removing a load-bearing wall to create an open concept kitchen and dining room, as well as renovating the main bathroom, and converting the second-floor loft into a divided bedroom and office space. On top of all that, we also replaced several interior and exterior doors and created a custom hall tree for storage near the back door. The project resulted in a cohesive and inviting home with bold colors and charm.
The Kitchen
Before beginning this project, the home had limited space in the kitchen and the dining room table was situated in the living room. The kitchen, eat-in table and back door entry competed for space, cut-off from the rest of the house. The owners also had a bonus room, next to the kitchen that was underutilized as a music room. We were able to open the music room and the kitchen using a structural beam. This created a new flow through the house and converting the music room into the new dining room. Take a look at the before and after pictures.
The Bathroom
The bathroom had limited storage space, due to an old chimney hidden in the walls. After removing that chimney, we were able to expand the shallow cabinets into a much larger closet. We also replaced the tub and installed a new tile surround with a custom niche. Finally, we installed new flooring that flows nicely from the kitchen and installed a new vanity, mirror, light and toilet.
The Second Floor
The large second floor loft space was previously used as a bedroom, with the door at the bottom of the stairs. In this project we removed the door from the bottom of the stairs and built a new wall and closet in the new bedroom space. We also re-framed and installed a new bedroom door at the top of the stairs. Separating the space in this way created a new sitting room and office area on the other side of the loft. The finishing touches were custom window benches for additional storage and a custom-built dresser to fit in the narrow space created by the new wall.
Teamwork for the Win
This project built on our trusted partnerships with interior designer Emili Spencer from Sprinkman Design, custom cabinet makers at Horst Kitchens, as well as trades professionals from, Capitol Plumbing, Electric One, Pharo Heating and Cooling, and Five Star Contracting. Thank you to all of our partners and a big thank you to the homeowners who welcomed us into their space and trusted us to take on this project.
